How To Create Content For Your Online Publishing Business

Thursday 15th April 2010

by Glenn Fisher

Writes Charles N...

"The fact is this: I can't write good content. Honestly, it's my weakness."

From the feedback I receive on a regular basis, it is clear Charles isn’t the only Shortcut reader who seems to be allergic to creating content.

There you are, ready and motivated to start your own online business venture...

But something’s stopping you.

Sure, you’re happy coming up with a good idea.

Sure, you’re happy enough setting up a website.

Sure, you’re pretty confident you can set about generating some potential customers.

But when it comes to actually writing the content for products and emails and whatnot... you’re all sneezes and coughs.

First off, don’t worry about it. I think coming up with content for a product or an e-letter is one of the hardest challenges any budding online entrepreneur faces.

I tell you, I know a lot of businesses out there who still can’t do it!
But anyway, how can Charles overcome his content allergy? How can you overcome yours?

Well, it’s two fold...

Now, this will seem like a fob off. But honestly, honestly, honestly... you should at least have a go.

Really. Even if it is your weakness. Even if you do find writing a struggle... just have a crack at it.

What’s the point?

Believe me, I get a lot of stuff sent to me from people who think they’re allergic to content but it’s good stuff. It’s rough round the edges but it’s a great start and with practice it would very quickly get better.

That’s just the thing...

Creating content takes practice. So even if you think it’s your weak spot, have a go. Don’t worry if it’s rough, just practice a little each day and you’ll naturally see an improvement.

But that’s a long term solution...

What can you do to bridge the gap?

The quick way to create content

You need a quick solution...

You need to call the cavalry.

And in this case the cavalry can come in two forms...

Friends and Freelancers.

You see, most people know someone who writes. And if you’re struggling to come up with content, it’s time to give them a call.

There’s nothing wrong with bringing in help to get your online venture off the ground. In fact, it’s a pretty clever move.

Think through your friends - is there anyone who comes to mind who might be able to take your ideas and use them to create a report or write some articles you could use in an e-letter or blog?

If they’ll do it for free, great. But you might well need to slip them a bit of cash - or a wiser move might be to set up a deal in which they get a percentage of anything you make from the content of theirs that you use.

Be flexible here. A, because they’re a friend, but B, because with the next option you’re going to incur a cost anyway...

You see, if you don’t have a friend or a friend of a friend who could create your content for you - it’s time to shine the freelance light into the sky.

One of the best freelance websites to visit is www.elance.com

You can get your name down and post your request. It’s pretty simple to do but there are a few key points to remember about hiring freelancers to create your content and in tomorrow’s issue I’ll cover that.

For now, I’ll let you check out www.elance.com but the main thing to remember today is that you shouldn’t let a content allergy stall your online business venture...

There are always ways around a problem.

When it comes to starting your own online business that’s an important fact to remember.

Best Wishes,
Glenn Fisher
