In fact, what I want to do right now is run through five quick things that you can do before the sun goes down today.

And each of them will help your website generate more traffic.

Sound good? OK. Let’s go for it...

Five top tricks for website success

Let’s start right at the top - the title of your page.

The page title, in case you weren’t sure, is the phrase that appears in the bar at the top of the window.

Like when you open a new document in Word and it reads at the top ‘Document 1 - Microsoft Word’; when you open your website, it’ll say something too.

But what it says is important as Google use the title in generating search results.

You’ll see on this page on our website, the page title is ‘How To Get More Traffic To Your Website For Free'.

What’s important here is that the title of the site is relevant to its content. This is key.

So, if this isn’t already the case with your site... first thing on your agenda is to alter the page title to make it relevant to the contents of your website.

Next...

Do you like pictures?

Most probably you do. And they don’t half make a website look pretty, right?

Problem is, if your website is all pictures and fancy logos, Google’s search engine won’t realise there’s something interesting there - they work on words.

So, say you had a pet shop website and had to click on a hamster’s face to click through to the dedicated hamster page.

All Google would see would be a picture of a hamster. Pointless as far as they’re concerned. And damn, you’ve lost an opportunity to throw in a key word (more on those in a minute).

To get round this, at the bottom of your site you should include some text navigation.

Again, look at the Shortcut site... scroll down and you’ll see a whole heap of plain text links.

Not only do these help Google to search for the site, they give visitors to the site a clear opportunity to click on something.

So, you don’t have to give up all your clickable hamsters, but make sure you have the plain text links at the bottom too.

Now, I mentioned key words.

Chances are you’re already up on what they are, but basically, they’re all the words that relate directly to your business.

So, say you run an online furniture store. Your key words are going to things like living room, pine furniture, sofa, coffee table.

You want to make sure you’ve got plenty of these key words all over your website, on every page.

BUT!!! Don’t sacrifice the readability of your content just to have loads of key words on your site. Google will find you out.

If you’re struggling to think which key words you should be working into your site, guess what...

That’ll put you in a position to be able to continue tomorrow and increase the traffic to your website even more.

1) Make your page title relevant to the content...

2) Put plain text/navigation links at the bottom of your page, and...

3) Find out what your key words are and work them naturally into the content on every page of your website.
